Burntisland Shipyard 2 Newburgh 4

Newburgh looked to right the midweek wrongs on Saturday against Burntisland Shipyard on Saturday.

Manager Scott Hudson handed a start to Elseedawy who had impressed in the 2nd half at Stirling. Jamie Gay also returned to the starting line-up.

In the opening exchanges Burntisland were far superior to Newburgh as they drove at the ‘Burgh defence looking for the opening goal.

It was in the 10th minute that Shippy opened their account with a well taken goal from Strang.

Newburgh looked tired and were not managing to form any cohesion in their play, Burntisland looked far sharper throughout their team.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men in the 29th minute when an onfield incident was dealt with promptly by the referee. Newburgh lost Edwards and Shippy lost Brown.

Newburgh reacted best to the enforced changes and began to trouble the home defence. Scott Sutherland equalised for Newburgh with a minute left in the half when he picked up a perfectly weighted through ball and stuck it under Costello in the Shippy goal.

In injury time Newburgh took the lead when a Jamie Gay free kick was mishandled by Costello gifting Newburgh the lead just on stroke of half time.

Shippy started the second half quickly and were rewarded with an equaliser from Anthony in the 55th minute. Newburgh’s response was instantaneous though with Scott Sutherland grabbing his second and Newburgh’s third goal almost from the restart.

Newburgh continued to be the team in ascendancy creating several chances which were dealt with by the Shippy keeper.

Scott Sutherland secured a personal hat trick and Newburgh’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute rising unmarked to head a corner into the home net.

Manager Scott Hudson reflected on both games “Having todays game so quickly after the Stiling game helped us as we said we wanted to draw a line under that performance and make things right today. The squad were disappointed with Wednesday and it showed today”.

Newburgh welcome Eyemouth United to East Shore Park on Saturday. No fans can be admitted to the game but regular updates are being posted on social media to keep everyone updated as the game progresses.
